Duties Description
- Candidates must be capable of responding to emergency calls within one hour in weather conditions that are not ideal, including any snow or ice conditions, to be considered for this job.
- The duties include but aren’t limited to the following: Perform manual tasks requiring moderate to physical exertion involving exposure to different weather conditions.
- They are expected to be able to operate plows during winter activities and to get the certifications for the equipment listed above.
- The responsibilities could include the Incident Command System to support the department’s response to statewide and regional emergencies.
Qualifications
Highway Maintenance Worker Trainee 1:
You must be 18, pass a physical or medical examination or drug testing*, and have an official class D Driver’s License.
Highway Maintenance Worker Trainee 2:
The applicant must be over 18, pass a medical or physical exam* and drug test, and hold a Class A or B Commercial Driver License with no airbrake restrictions.
Candidates will be assessed on their capability to operate an NYSDOT huge dump truck effectively within two weeks of appointment. Failure to be successful will result in the termination of your work.
Candidates who meet both of the following MAY be eligible to bypass the pre-employment physical: A valid CDL A or B AND a current (less than 2 years old) CDL Medical Certificate (form MCSA 5876) that has met specific requirements that will be discussed during the time of interview.
Note: All applicants must pass a physical or medical exam* and a drug test before commencing work.
